Manchester Metros 19-3 Sheffield Bears
The Manchester Metros could finally celebrate winning the league title for the first time since the 2017/18 season on Wednesday night after Northumbria Kings failed to overturn a 49 goal difference against Glasgow following a dominate Metros victory on Friday night over the Sheffield Bears.
The Metro’s took a early lead after 2 and half minutes through Anrich Landman who was assisted by Chris Kelly-Wong. The Metro’s pushed for a 2nd and finally got their reward in 10th minute as Kai Gennoe linked up with Jake Frost, who doubled the Metro’s lead. The floodgates began to open with Oliver Massey getting the first of 2 goals within a 3 minute period in between Anrich Landman getting his 2nd. Chris Kelly Wong scored a short handed goal to put the Metros 6 up within 16 minutes and Ollie Massey (Short hand), Matthew Wassall and Kai Gennoe all followed up with goals to leave the Metros 9-0 ahead at the end of the first quarter.
Dominik Weaver started the 2nd quarter in sensational style scoring straight from the restart to move the Metros onto double figures. Matthew Wassall then scored from a power play which was followed 6 minutes later by Phoebe Gregg scoring for Sheffield from their own power play. Kai Gennoe and Dominik Weaver scored in the final 10 minutes of the quarter with Alexey Medwicz scoring for Sheffield from another power play.
2 minutes into the final quarter, Sheffield got a third through Josh Barnes which was quickly followed by Dominik Weaver combing with Chris Kelly Wong and Heather Clarkson. Jake Frost then got 3 in 3 minutes with the first an individual strike before linking up with Oliver Massey and Kai Gennoe for the final 2 goals to wrap up a demolition job from the Metros. Chris Kelly Wong took the Metro’s player of the match thanks to his 9 points which includes 8 assists while Callum O’Shea was Sheffield’s MVP.
Next up for the Metro’s is the Battle of Oxford Road as Manchester Metropolitan Uni take on the University of Manchester at Planet Ice Altrincham for the first time since 2013. Over 200 tickets have been sold already with the University of Manchester having blocks 101-108 and Manchester Met Uni taking blocks 110-117.
