Match Preview | Battle of Oxford Road

Written by club volunteer, Leon Higgins.

The Battle of Oxford Road is back for the first time since 2013 as the University of Manchester face Manchester Metropolitan University in an ice hockey match on Saturday (17:00 face off).

The 'Battle Of Oxford Road' is not yet officially a part of the newly founded Manchester Varsity program but is fully backed by both universities. The Metro’s players will be split over the two sides, making it an exciting spectacle as teammates face off. The sides have faced off twice in 2012 and 2013 with the University of Manchester winning on both occasions.

Over the years, Varsity and games between local universities have had many different forms. The Manchester Metros have in recent years faced off against the University of Birmingham in the inter-club 'IceBull Varsity' which will also be taking place in the coming weeks.

Tickets are still available with over 450 tickets already being sold with the University of Manchester having blocks 101-108 and Manchester Met Uni taking blocks 110-117.
