Join the Metros for the 2026-27 season!

With the 2026-27 BUIHA season on the horizon, the Manchester Metros are now recruiting experienced players to join the club.
The club has 6 teams, including Checking, Non-Checking, and Women's sides, meaning there is a space for you regardless of how experienced you are.
Throughout it's history, the A team has been a powerhouse in the BUIHA, winning three National Titles, three Division Titles, and five Conference Titles across Checking Division 1 and Checking Division 2. The Metros have also competed internationally, previously participating in the annual Clermont-Ferrand tournament in France and facing off against the Thomas Bata University HC (Czechia) in 2012 in front of a crowd of 2,000. The side also competes in the annual IceBull invitational, competing against the Birmingham Lions infront of a completely sold-out Planet Ice Solihull.
The Metros’ top team now typically plays in Checking Division 1 or Checking Division 2 and is composed of players with NIHL, junior, or international experience.
The Metros Women’s team made its debut at the 2023 Women’s Nationals after receiving support from the University of Manchester to fund the team and increase female participation in the sport. Since then, typically almost 40% of the club’s members have been women, with representation across every squad. The side competes in the BUIHA Women’s Cup and Women’s Nationals.
The team has a wide range of skill to ensure all eligible players are included, typically icing NIHL, WNIHL, international, recreational, and developmental players from the club’s A-E sides and focuses on fostering a friendly yet competitive atmosphere to go alongside their mixed-team season.
The B-E sides compete in the Non-Checking divisions. With teams at every level, the skill ranges from ex juniors and experienced recreational players focusing on competing for trophies, all the way down to absolute beginners graduating from Learn To Play sessions that are looking to focus on development. This ensures that there is a suitable Non-Checking team for every player.
The club also splits into two for an annual varsity match that is The University of Manchester VS The Manchester Metropolitan University. The two sides first faced off in 2012 and 2013 before the event was revived in 2025, now boasting large student crowds of almost 1000. Highly experienced Metros players who go to other universities, such as Salford or Liverpool, are drafted to play in the event under a team, ensuring all highly skilled Metros have the ability to play in the event.
